The President's Message
by Marc D. Komori Stager, PsyD
Things to Know about CCPA:
Your board is putting forth Dr. Laura Naman for your consideration as our next president. You will get to vote her into office at our January meeting. You know Dr. Naman from her articles on diversity in our newsletter. She has a wide-ranging private practice in Lafayette and she consults at Alta Bates. I will be so happy when you vote her into office. I will concede immediately and graciously.
Dr. Howard Steele, half of the famous attachment research couple. will detach himself from his wife to tell us about attachment on January 30, 2021 during the Zoom Annual Meeting. His part of the meeting will start at 10:00 AM. (But you will join us at 9:30AM for the business of CCPA. That business most importantly involves voting the current bum out of office and installing new, vibrant leadership in the person of Dr. Naman.) Drs. Steele most famously tracked attachment in families across the growth of children from birth through 17 years old in the London Parent-Child Project.
I want to share with you that your board puts lots of care and consideration into our selection of speakers. The board can at times agonize over what our members will most want to learn. Even if you do not find one of our workshops compelling, know that we work hard to bring each presentation into existence.
The board has decided to reduce the membership fee by half for 2021. While the board still meets 10 times a year to keep CCPA running, we know that COVID-19 has crimped our association’s style. To help mitigate our lowered ability to serve, we have reduced our fee.
First Friday this December will also be our holiday party. We will not be able to taste luscious hors d'oeuvres from our caterer; we will not be able to mingle in a physical sense. But we will be able to say hi to each other, and catch up with people we have not seen in awhile. And we will be able to “get out” of the office for a bit. Dr. Alissa Scanlin will post the details on the listserv.
Dr. Alexis Smith-Bauman continues to host the Early Career meeting on Fridays. The group decides which Friday works best for them each month, so contact Dr. Smith-Bauman for details on when the next meeting will be.
We have some openings on the Board. If you are considering joining the board, please sit in on a few meetings to see how we operate. You can come in disguise as all members are invited to attend board meetings. Contact your secretary, Dr. Paige Leopold, for the Zoom invitation code.
Marc, your humble, soon-to-be-ex president.
