Adolescent Psychotherapy: Thoughts, Theory, and Interventions

Adolescent Psychotherapy: Thoughts, Theory, and Interventions
Instructed by Andrew P. Pojman, Ed.D., 2CE

Thursday, October 28th @ 6:30-8:30 PM

Workshop Description

Adolescents are a challenging, risk-taking, and rewarding population.  As psychologists and psychotherapists, they make unique demands on our ability to empathically care, set limits, manage their parents/caregivers, and address transference and countertransferencial concerns.  This presentation will discuss theories of attachment and identity development emphasizing the importance of diversity as a normative element of adolescent development.  Pragmatic interventions will be highlighted.

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

1.  Identify at least three features of adolescent development related to the self, peer relationships, and emotions.

2.  Demonstrate increased sensitivity to adolescent cultures especially as it relates to psychotherapy with an adolescent.

3.  Discuss the impact of transference and countertransference on the adolescent psychotherapy.

4.  Cite three new intervention techniques.
